Dallas – Aunt Stelle’s Sno-Cones
This family-owned and operated Oak Cliff snow cone spot has been around for more than 40 years, and the owners actually live just two doors down. Open Thursday–Sunday from 2–9pm from the last Sunday in April through Labor Day, Aunt Stelle’s offers locals 30+ flavors of snow cones. This is the real deal, people. Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan used to get their snow cones here.

One thing to know about TC’s Shaved Ice is that they don’t post hours of operation. But you can be sure that when the Dallas temperature rises, TC’s will be open to serve you your favorite flavor of shaved ice. Family-owned for more than 20 years and situated near White Rock Lake, TC’s offers 30+ flavors plus a signature item called a Knockout—it’s your choice of flavored shaved ice sandwiched between two scoops of homemade piña colada ice cream. That’s right—homemade. Owner Xavier Hernandez recommends a Knockout with bubblegum or mango shaved ice.

Frisco – The Snow Cone Lady
Known to many simply as “The Snow Cone Lady,” Mary Mathis has been single-handedly serving up refreshing summer treats to the City of Frisco for nearly 30 years. One of Frisco’s best-kept local secrets, The Snow Cone Lady opened for business in a small shack behind a gas station, but has now moved to a proper space in a building on Elm Street.
As her notoriety grew, so did the lines that formed outside her window, so Mary decided to put up tents outside to shield her customers from the relentless Texas sun. But don’t even think about cutting in line—there are signs posted that expressly prohibit it. Her snow cones come in over 50 flavors, with a small ringing in at only $1.25 and a large costing only a quarter more—a bargain by anyone’s standards, but an especially impressive one if you know what it’s like to be in Frisco in August. The Snow Cone Lady opens every April, with hours from 2pm–10pm Tuesday through Friday and 3pm–10pm on weekends. She’s usually closed on rainy days, but check her Facebook page before you go, just to be sure.
